The New Rules: Winter White

Hullo lovelies! I was gone for a minute but now I’m BACK WIT DA JUMPOFF (Funky Dineva voice- check him/her out on Youtube!) I wanna start off by saying: I. LOVE. ROBYN. RIHANNA. FENTY. If there was anyone on the planet who’s shoes I’d love to walk in for a day, it would be hers. Recently Ms. Fenty-if-ya-nasty was spotted in Portofino, Italy, eating gelato by the dozen (liter? idk…) and wearing thee cutest YSL jumpsuit!

Which got me to thinkin’, and Internet shopping, and wondering: with Labor Day right around the corner, how sensible would it be for me to do a “Look for Less” with this particular outfit? I found a couple of options at my favorite e-shopping site, www.asos.com,  and decided to Google/Wikipedia search “rule of winter white”. Good news! There are no rules (almost)! Stylelist asked some of the top names in fashion and fashion merchandising about the new rules for winter white. Its a lengthy article, so I’ll summarize:

DO:
– invest in white pieces like a coat or sweater
DON’T
-do white pumps (eewww!) or purses (cream is okay, white looks like you followed an 80s hair band on the road. White Snake anyone?)

DO:
-Try (gasp!) head to toe white. With the right mix of fabrics, it can be ultra chic!
DON’T:
-Do shiny fabrics or white hosiery of any kind. It will make you look fat. No, not P(retty) H(ot) A(nd) T(empting), but FAT.

So what do you all think, winter white, is it a go? Personally, I loved the jumpsuit idea so much I’m taking it on my Caribbean vacation! I’ll be sure to post pics of my style choices while abroad!

Documentary: GOD SAVE MY SHOES!

There’s nothing like the LOVE between a woman & her shoes! Its unconditional, POWERFUL & FINALLY someone has been able to capture that strong connection. Written & directed by Julie Benasra, the documentary “God Save My Shoes” traveled across the world interviewing die hard shoenistas to find out what is it that makes women obsess so much over shoes. It features everyone from your average woman, to IDEAL’s favorite shoe designers & superstars such as Christian Louboutin, Kelly Rowland, Fergie & Dita Von Teese.

Check out the trailer BELOW:

The film is set to be released October 4th on Canal Plus (TV France). Release dates for other areas have yet to be determined, but I can’t wait to see this in its entirety. For more information visit godsavemyshoes.com

Prouduct Must Have: The Curling Wand!

Ever wonder how you can achieve those sexy Kate Hudson loose beach waves, big Diana Ross curls, or Taylor Swift’s spirals? Well, I’ve found your solution:

The Curling Wand!

Enzo Milano

Its an essential tool for hair gurus & a lifesaver for the hair handicapped such as myself because you’re able to instantly achieve so many different patterns with your hair WITHOUT the crimps & bend from a traditional curling iron. To top it all off the process doesn’t take as much time especially if you are doing the waves. You literally just grab sections of your hair, wrap it around, & GO!

Now you guys know I’m an avid googler. Its the only way I do my extensive research & there are numerous brands that are selling their version of the perfect curling wand, & the price can run all the way up to about $125. However, based solely on reviews from various sites, my top two contenders were:

1. Conair Infiniti

2 Remington Tstudio

Both are $29.99, had similar features & tons of RAVE reviews. I was a leery of Conair because their products are cheap & usually SUCK! However, this instance is not the case. The decision was hard, so I ended up buying both because I’m just that indecisive. I LOVED both but I stuck with the Remington ONLY because it got a little hotter & its pink. Yes pink was really my deciding factor!

Now I can’t lie, the curling wand looks easier to use than it really is, but once you get the hang of it, its fairly simple.

Pretty right? Her hair always gives me LIFE! XoXO

Fall Into…A Matte Lip!

Recently I was perusing one of my favorite fashion blogs (besides I.D.E.A.L, of course) The Fashion Bomb, and came across a picture of Claire, the founder, wearing a hot pink matte lip for her upcoming feature in this September’s issue of ESSENCE.

I was immediately inspired! I’m a shade or two darker than Claire, but I love to take risks with makeup, its less harrowing than say, a dramatic haircut, because it comes off easily once you wash your face. I wanted to rock the pink matte lip for my upcoming 26th birthday celebration, and I’m wearing a turquoise, tan, and black dress with my hair pulled up and bangs. I had decided on a smoky eye in tan, gunmetal grey, and blue (slightly deeper than turquoise), and thought a pink matte lip would be great to make my smile really pop!

NARS, NYX, and Sephora all offer really cute colors in matte shades. NARS Pure Matte line comes in 12 colors, and I like Carthage.

At $25.00, its a little pricey for one tube of lipstick, but then again, it is NARS. NARS Pure Matte was THEE lipstick of choice for the 2011 Fall/Winter Marc Jacobs’ runway!

The slightly less expensive Sephora Collection Maniac Mat lipstick comes  in 10 colors, and I’m thinking about the Mat 2, which is a natural pink color. It is priced at $12.00

The least expensive option is the Soft Matte Lip Cream by NYX (in Addis Adaba). This lip cream swipes like a gloss but finishes like a matte lipstick! According to NYX, the Soft Matte Lip Cream is “neither lipstick nor lip gloss—this is matte lip cream. A new kind of pout paint that goes on silky smooth and sets to a matte finish. Soft Matte Lip Cream is surprisingly durable and, unlike some matte lipstick formulas, also moisturizing. Available in 11 lip colors.” At $6.00, this might be the move!
